There’s been a lot of debate recently about #deadstock, not least because many fashion brands have boxes of redundant stock lying around after the winter and early spring lockdowns.
The fashion industry has always been ingenious in the way it tackles challenges and it will be no different this time – there are so many ways to offload excess stock.
But we’d like to highlight this one: SecretSales.
The company was sold to platform business Lifestyle Retail Group (LRG) in August last year and is being transformed from a “campaign-led flash Sale company” to a multichannel off-price retailer, comprising a new marketplace, individual brand digital storefronts, and physical pop-up shops across the EU.
SecretSales is led by LRG CEO Chris Griffin, former ecom supremo at Superdry, and Matt Purt, former head of new biz partnerships at eBay. It’s a heavyweight duo.
Purt told Drapers last year: “We have now pivoted and moved to a pure marketplace only model.”
Griffin added: “We have always believed that the future is marketplace”.
Our response to this is two-fold:
- We are integrated with SecretSales which allows seamless trading with the company, including its new marketplace model.
- We agree that marketplaces are very much part of the future for fashion!
In fact, so convinced are we that marketplaces are the future, we developed and launched i.LEVEL Connect earlier this year. What is i.LEVEL Connect? It is a simple integration which lets you turn your website into a marketplace – you select other brands that can sell on your site, using the dropship model of sales fulfilment.
We’ve had a number of brands implement i.LEVEL Connect and the results have been nothing short of spectacular – one of our clients, a leading fashion brand with a solid ecommerce presence, has seen sales rise by 55% in just a few months. Other brands are also seeing immediate revenue uplifts.
