#Deadstock is trending…but it shouldn’t be

One of the trending fashion hashtags across Instagram and Twitter is #deadstock. As its name suggests, #deadstock means exactly that – stock that’s gathering dust in the back of the warehouse.

To be fair to fashion brands across the UK, the last 16 months would challenge any business. For the fashion industry, which is seasonally dependent, having consumers locked down for months has been nothing less than catastrophic. When the lockdown eased over a month ago, last winter’s styles were history, leaving entire warehouses filled with #deadstock.

Fashion brands are now fire-sailing this unwanted stock, with social media awash with #deadstock hashtag items.

That’s not to say there hasn’t been a few raised eyebrows. Online education platform Fashion Insiders, which supports purpose driven fashion brand founders, had this to say in a recent tweet, “The term #deadstock – has it become the new way to be wasteful but masking it by using new buzz words? #sustainabilitymatters #sameold #MarketingStrategy”.

From our perspective, there’s a straightforward solution to #deadstock: i.LEVEL.

Our stock control platform is used by dozens of leading UK fashion brands to give you a 360° overview of your stock wherever it sits in the supply chain.

The platform is built only for the fashion industry (accessories and jewellery too!) and allows you to track clothing and accessories from factory to warehouse, store to customer, website to home address. Our single screen dashboard shows you what lines are selling and where, and with a few clicks lets you redistribute stock quickly. Redundant stock is minimised, and sales discounting avoided.

In short, by having full spectrum overview of your stock, you can seriously minimise the chances of having #deadstock in your inventory.

Moreover, our stock control solution is an off-the-shelf solution which means we can offer it at a competitive price. It is also relevant for fashion brands of all sizes – from small brands with as few as ten employees all the way to leading high street fashion brands.
